It's Friday and .......

....... the day has hit the :crap already.
Got to work and hit the monitor power button and nothing happened. Hmmmm
Looked at the box and the comp was off. Strange as I leave it folding 24/7 and just turn off the monitor when I leave for the day. It's on a UPS so I'm thinking maybe a power outage long enough to shut down - no big deal.
Power up and OH CRAP shut down was due to thermal event and won't boot into Windows. CPU fan seems to be running but maybe not fast enough and no dust to speak of in heatsink. (Couple of bunnies in the case but no big deal.)
This is NOT what I had planned for the day.:cry

eh it's like Thursday for me. I took Tuesday off to finish up the siding on my house so making it up on Saturday.

 

Just got to work about 5 minutes ago. Making some coffee and going to heat up a blueberry muffin once the coffee is done.

Well, my day seems to be the only 1 going truly downhill.
Upon closer examination of this wonderful piece of Dell technology, there are a veritable plethora of blown capacitors on the motherboard. (No they weren't out in the open, they were hidden underneath the heat-sink fan shield.) Looks like replacement motherboard time.

Today is my Monday, but at least I didn't have to get up early (I work at 6:30pm) and I'm doing something I enjoy tonight. So far today I've done virtually nothing but sip coffee and surf the web, so the start was pretty darn OK. :-D

it's going good, almost no ones is in the office, they're either at training or haven't come in yet do to what I hear as an interesting night at the bar (3 hours late and counting lol). Finished writing a web page 3 hours before the design meeting is supposed to take place and now wasting some time on here and slashdot until I decided to knock out some more code

 

Pretty good I must say. My company if getting off the ground. Already have 3 customers =)

At least you are employed!! I was laid off more than 3 months ago. And my employer's wife told the state I quit, making me inelligble for benefits. So, 15 weeks of zero income, savings and checking accounts depleted - all bills paid up to-date except rent, my visa nearing a grand and no replies to the many jobs I've applied for or all the resumes I've sent out. I would MUCH rather be sitting in an office dealing with a burned out computer than wondering when the landlord is going to call and evict me & my kid.

No proof. And I did file an appeal and was granted a hearing 10/13. Desperate I went to unemployment's HQ this Monday to find out the status. I was informed that it would be six weeks before a decision is granted, three of which have already passed. I applied for and received food stamps a couple weeks ago. Found out today that the $97 they gave me was supposed to last 3 weeks! Thankfully I only spent 70 so I can still buy milk etc this weekend. Shit really sucks. BUT, I am healthy and so is my kid!

 

Wait till you get the food card for food.. And when your on unemployed and your check is a joke ... and the card only has 10 dollars on it for each month? Wth is gov doing?

 

Thanks Tim! I have been to social services and others and no one will help until I've been served an eviction notice. Which is dumb, I'd rather avoid reaching that point! C'est la vie, I'll meet with the landlord Monday and explain all to him and hope for the best. I read that thread last night, about Chris & Amanda, and offered them some advice. Thanks for your encouragement!

I hear ya... three of us living here and I'm the only one working now... Other half got laid off and is still looking (going on a year and a half now) and my mother-in-law ended up stuck here in CNY and can't find much of anything work wise either, just got a part time holiday position, but that doesn't start till after thanksgiving... thank god I own my home now, one less thing to worry about, but still have to pay taxes and power and gas and car and homeowners insurance and petrol and such all off 1 check. Other half got the food stamps, but still, had to make it look like she's renting from me to even get that.... I just can't figure out how the hell I make too much for 3 people working 40hrs a week at $10/hour.

Back on topic.... I got up and ran some errands today, ate dinner and now just chillin till I go to work... I do love my nights, but am ready for a M-F 9-5 job so I can actually get stuff done around the house.

But now, I can't decide, do I want a glass of Scotch, Irish Whiskey, Bourbon, or Rum? Leaning to starting off with a Rum and Coke, I don't defile my other whiskeys with Coke. (Well, ok, not a big Bourbon fan, It is ok with Coke).
