This past week I've been trying to plan a research meeting we have for a few days from 28th Nov, we normally have a meal out on the 1st day, now hits the PITA part that's turning me more grey! restaurants and say set menus at £18.95 a head ok sounds good so email restaurants (state its not an xmas meal) to check availability for 20+ and I get replies of thanks for your xmas inquiry and the set menu is £35 ...... WTF!

So is Christmas getting more to starting in summer, geez we have not got Halloween (killer clown) season out of the way yet.. /rant over.

Yep I noticed this several years ago when I was arranging my daughter's 21st (born 21st December) and we were going to have it early in an up market restaurant but they still priced it as an xmas party and they weren't so interested in ONLY having 60 guests and as I got told the function room holds 120 so I would need to cover that or they would hire it out to whoever filled it..........so I had the last laugh and we had it in a marquee in our large backyard and then many of the guests could stay over and not worry about driving home drunk ;)

To finish off my short rant, a local city restaurant has given me a SUPERB deal, £19.50 for 2 courses with bottle of wine per two persons, plus I will pre order and if some want a pudding, they will invoice me, cannot say highly how much they have superb customer service on this. All I can say is I'm classed as 4 persons!

Thanksgiving Day traditionally a family day has been invaded with the start of Christmas shopping madness the last few years with stores opening earlier and earlier. I am glad to see that some retailers have decided to remain closed Thanksgiving Day this year.

I agree kat, xmas has invaded many holiday traditions and now Samhain (Halloween to you and me, but old Celtic tradition, and seriously cool to be in Belfast NI for this day) has been swamped by xmas shopping adverts, weirdly in the UK more by furniture companies wanting to sell sofa's dont know what its like on USA TV.

Here in the US we have furniture and mattress tv and radio commercials year round. They are the most annoying commercials of all because they raise the volume to the point of yelling at you.:( We also have Christmas in July sales.

We always get ads for prescription medicines, of course with all the listed side effects. Then the following show will have ads for lawyers suing said companies for people suffering from said side effects.

Guess they believe everybody with rabbit-ear TV's can afford Doctors and Lawyers!

And why I record what I want to watch on a DVR first. That way I can hit >> on the remote when the commercials start, and never have to actually watch them. :)

Of course, that means watching TV in sports bars and while visiting someone who does not have a DVR, is all the more annoying now.

I don't watch much TV myself but other people in the house have it on.:( If I am in another room I can hear the commercials. Like Mimsy if there is something I want to watch like a movie I DVR it and watch it later and fast forward through commercials. I do like to watch my favorite college basketball team's games live.
Most often when I sit down to relay I have my nose in a book and my laptop open.;)

Same in UK we get alleged cheaper furniture at Xmas, £1000 good priced at £400 more like the real price is £200 as they still making a profit at £400 otherwise commercial suicide.

Dont see medicine ads in the UK promoting xmas, maybe some health food companies.
