iTunes cannot invoke Win Installer? HELP...

    friends - i'm trying to simply install the latest ver of itunes for win XP, and I get an error saying it cannot fire off the Windows Installer. I go check the installer by verifying through a Microsoft update, everything works just dandy.

    has anyone run into this and is there a simple fix?????
