iTunes - copying library

    Hi guys,

    Here's the issue. I've just bought myself a new Windows desktop, and I essentially want to transfer the entire contents of my iTunes/iTunes library from my old PC to an external hard drive, so I can then transfer this to my new desktop when it arrives tomorrow.

    But how is this achieved?

    Do I need to find the iTunes folder in 'My Music', and then select the iTunes files within this folder, and then simply send all of those direct to my external drive? Or is it more complex than that?

    I presume I also then need to go into 'Program Files' and copy all of the actual iTunes installers too? When it comes to transferring everything from the external drive to my new desktop, is it as easy as re-installing iTunes, and then simply copying over the relevant iTunes music data files??

    Yes, you would plug in your external hardrive, go to your music folder and just copy your entire itunes library to the external HD.

    No...just copy your songs. When you have your new computer, go to the apple website and download the latest version of iTunes (it should be easy to find) onto your new computer.


    Yes. You can either import your library into your music folder on your computer or you can open up itunes > File > Import > Find your External HD > import your songs

    Hello

    May I add just a little bit more information to what has already been provided?

    Any purchased items through the itunes store will need to be authorised on your new computer and probably best to deauthorize your old pc once you have everything copied across and have checked that all is running/playing ok.
