iTunes freezes when playing / importing CD

    Hi,

I have recently started having an issue importing music from CDs into iTunes. The CDs (and their track names etc) will be recognised by iTunes. When I try to play or import the CD, iTunes freezes within the first few seconds and I have to kill the processes in Task Manager.

I have tried two music CDs (one of which has worked previously) and the same thing happened. I have updated to the latest version of iTunes and it has not made any difference.

I was about to reinstall iTunes, when I tried a different player (VLC) and that had the same issue (freezes during the first few seconds). I am now unsure whether I should be asking this in the software or hardware forums.

    I am running Windows 7.

If anyone has any advice, that would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Elwood

    Hi

Is your Windows 7 install fully up to date as in SP1 and all current updates? (don't worry about the optional's just the critical's)?

Try this Troubleshooter HERE and see if this helps, the deleting of the upper and lower filters can help with conflicts, may need to re-install any media apps that don't seem to work properly though as they will need to add their filters back.

If the above doesn't help try the below and report back.

If you boot into Safe Mode and try using VLC or iTunes do you get the same freeze? this may help trace the issue to another 3rd party software causing the conflict, generally its an installed security app or a different installed media app.

If iTunes works ok in Safe Mode then run the below guide so we can see what you currently installed (I know if this is the same PC as your malware thread may have similar info but I'd wish to see a current log), just follow the instructions as listed below.

Also check Event Viewer and the Software log for any errors at the exact time of an iTunes freeze and pop in a notepad file and attach, don't need the whole log just the details of that specific error that could be linked to iTunes/VLC

I am using SP1, I have just checked and this last installed updates this morning. There is one important update not installed (Microsoft.NET framework- that I am now installing).

I ran the troubleshooter and it did not find any issues.

I tried this and iTunes would not run at all (claimed there was an issue with the audio configuration)

I have attached the CCleaner log you requested.

Please can you give me some more detailed instructions for this, I am not sure how to do this.

    Thanks
