itunes help

i have been using itunes for a few years and i tried to install the newest version on my labtop but it didnt work. there was no error message it seemed to install fine but when i double clicked it it just didnt work. the labtop has xp and is only a few years old. so i installed an older version and it worked. just a few days ago i was downloading videos from itunes and it said i needed to upgrade for the videos so i did and now it isnt working again and the old ones arent either. does anyone have a solution
