iTunes Help

Hi, i've been searching around the internet and either haven't been phrasing this question right or it's not an issue for others. My problem is my iTunes keeps on going to the of my music selection and I can't work out how to stop it. If I search for a certain artist and then delete what i've written it automatically goes to the very top of my music, meaning my music starting with A rather than staying on the artist i'm listening to and it's beginning to drive me rather crazy. If anyone can help it would be gladly appreciated. I've tried looking through the options but can't seem to find anything to stop it.
