I've tried everything. PLEASE HELP!

Every time I turn on my computer I get the "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" box open from startup. Even in safe mode it appears. I've run every spyware/adaware/regmechanic ect. program I've been able to find but to no avail. When I click on the close tab I loose my desktop and have to reboot.

When I leave my computer idle it ends up opening / trying to open the window I posted at the top of this message. I've tried to uncover problems in the registry but am a bit of a newbie and haven't found anything that looks suspicious. Sometimes when I try to open a browser window it remains hidden. I've been having a number of different pop up ads appearing for various spyware software appearing as well. A sick joke maybe? Ultimately after leaving my computer on it ends up freezing and must be restarted again. I'm working with Windows 98. And would greatly apreciate any help.

If not, read it through and see if you need to go back and re-run some of those steps again. Sometimes it's not a matter of "running" a spyware program but "how" it's run, where it's run from on your computer and the order it's run in relation to other programs.

There's also a couple other "stickys" at the top of the Spyware forum you may want to read after that thread.

Then come back and tell us which thread you read, what you tried and couldn't try or wouldn't work and we'll go from there.
