Jammed CD drive

When I push the open button, I can hear something happening, but the drawer doesn't come out. I have tried opening it during the boot-up, I have also used a straightened paper clip. Nothing works.

I have a Hewlett-Packard Pavilion a1410n.

 

As though this weren't bad enough, my HP computer stopped working entirely. I get the Windows XP sign-on logo, then the screen goes blank. Or I get a white-on-black screen with choices like safe mode, last configuration that worked, start windows normally etc. When I try safe mode, I get the safe mode directory, but I can never get any further.

 

As far as your boot up problem goes unhitch the CD drive that is playing up then try a boot, then post back, the cd rom maybe preventing the boot sequence.

 

The CD drive had been jammed for several weeks before the crash. My computer was working fine without it.

If I could open the CD drive, I could use my recovery discs to get the computer running again. Maybe.

How do I remove the CD drive?

Getting the drive out is simple, it is on most machines held in with four screws. There is the power cable and the data cable, pull the cables first then remove the screws the CD will slide right out. Just do the reverse going back in.
