Jaton video card remorse

I did my research after the check cleared...lol. trying to get a little extra preformance, at a budget price, from my HP 531mhz celeron, until I can get a new system. I installed a Jaton 118pci-32ddr video card. It works, but I cant see my task bar (Win XP home). I tried changing the resolution, but it only made the icons smaller, and and got some weird color shifts, still no task bar. same results using the windows drivers. Disabling the onboard video didn't help. I haven't tried Jaton tech support, their website reads like a chinese fortune cookie, so I don't expect much over the phone. Upside is I'm only out $30.00.
My system: HP Pav.531mhz celeron, win XP home, 80 gig seagate, 512ram, trigem mobo, phoenix bios, intel 82810 onboard graphics controller.
I can provide whatever system info. if some one else has a clue.

ok the only thing i can think of is to search for new drivers for the graphics card, and maybe drivers for your monitor...

thanx for the hint,zulu. I downloaded a driver from sis and during install it used some of the new files and some of the old ones. I think I ended up with what might be called a custom driver, but it works. I hope I never have to reinstall it, I might not be able to duplicate it.

did you try adjusting the controls on your monitor. you can move the picture up and down etc.
