    Hi All,

I'm new here but need some help!! I installed Java version 7 update 5 and am having some issues uninstalling it. It uninstalled from Control panel uninstall/change programs but it is stil appearing as an icon in my control panel. When I click on it I get the error software not found. I can't install any other version of Java either. When I try and install it again or a different version i get the following error 'this software has alrady been installed on your computer would you like to reinstall'? when I say yes it tells me in order to do this the software needs to be already installed.
If anyone has come across this or has any solutions that would be great.

    Thanks In advance
    B:)

Welcome to MG's. I have moved your thread to the software forum where you should receive additional assistance.

What exactly does it say/do when you run these? Keep in mind that just because the item appears in the list of add/remove programs doesn't mean it is still there.

Sounds like you might have old versions of 6 still on your computer. Sun?Oracle was very messy about removing old versions when an update was done. It has since improved.
Try JavaRA to get rid of all the old entries.

    Reboot.

A word of advice: hold off on installing Java once it is removed. Why? There is an unpatched security hole and the best thing to do is uninstall Jave os disable it in ALL browsers.
I removed Java from all but one computer last year and haven't found anything complaining because it is not installed. (I just disabled it for IE and FF on the one computer that it is installed on).

    Sorry, missed the JavaRA link.

I was reading about deleting a registry key but when I looked at the registry of the one computer I have Java on with the CP icon, I do not have that particular key.
I did not trust the instructions I found.

Yes, I know what you mean. As for myself I would image the disk and go hunting for keys, but I can't suggest that to anyone, image restore should be a last resort thing, not a troubleshooting method.

I've removed java before and the standard methods we mentioned always worked. Beyond that, as you say, no trustworthy info seems to be out there... :confused

The link I provided for the specific Java error message is legit. :) Me thinks, plodr and I cross posted.

The Reg Fix created by appleoddity has met with tremendous success.
I reiterate, for that particular error on installation.
    Cheers..

Somewhere I have the proper key - now to just figure out where in my notes I put it. (I had to remove something Java related from FF that was disabled by Mozilla; something disabled can't be removed if you can't enable it).

The supposed fix I found was to get rid of the Control Panel icon.

I think appleoddity needs to edit his post and delete the bat file, some are going to miss his warning:
*** Please use the automated executable listed above instead of this batch file. ***

Why keep it there if he doesn't recommend it? If he's saying that the bat files works on all but XP, he needs to be a bit clearer. that said, kudos to him/her for this fix!

Anyone reading this thread needs to be aware of this....

    Nice catch sikvik, thanks!

Agree cipher. :) That's why I quoted the fix in blue.
