Java installation problems

Hey,

Trying to install the latest version of Java (JRE) and i get the message: 'This software has already been installed on your computer. Would you like to reinstall it?' -- Two options, Yes and No. I click no and it just goes off, i click yes and i get the error message 'This action is only valid for products that are currently installed'.

I've uninstalled an older version of java, and am unable to install this... so currently running no java, any suggestions?? i've already tried installing the older version of java again then updating to the new version but with the same outcome

You must uninstall all old versions of Java - they are a security risk and are currently exploited by several types of malware. So get rid of it. But first: download the new Java to your desktop but don't install it yet.

2. Then go to Add/remove programs and uninstall all old Java.
3. Run this tool and take down most remains: http://majorgeeks.com/JavaRa_d5967.html
4. Search for Java and delete files, folders etc. manually
5. Then install the new Java download (Version 6 Update 13) sitting on your desktop
6. When installed - delete the installation program on the desktop.

 

Yeh, tried that... same outcome . It goes as far as preparing to install... n then the mesage saying its already been installed comes up... so frustrating and i can't find a way to fix it

 

Then search for Java and delete all remains manually. Also run CCleaner.

 

What Operating System? Vista, XP, 98...
