Java Issues

Hello: i am new, and think i am in the right forum, but not sure about a new post. hope someone sees this.

My issue is whit Java and IE 7. Java shows installed and current according to sun micro's web site. However, there is no icon in control panel and no option to enable under IE options / advanced, i.e. no check box, no mention of Sun / Java. (both of which Sun shows a either how to enable or proof of proper function).

Also, if I go to trend micro's house calls, the web page will tell me I do not have java runtime properly enabled, if I go to java's web site, it tells me I have the most current version, "You have the recommended Java installed (Version 6 Update 11)".

If i try to continue with trend micro, (launch the scanner) the page attempts to update and start trend micro, AND THEN IT JUST HANGS UP, STATUS BAR STOPS, NOTHING HAPPENS, FOR MINUTES, HOURS, DAYS, DOESN'T MATTER, IT JUST STOPS RIGHT THERE.

Who can / will help with this issue? WARNING, I am not very PC literate...

 

Under IE7 did u check tools -> then check manage add-ons? Cause I have Java\sun and it works for me... They are listed there too..

If the latest version of JRE doesn't work for you, uninstall it with Java uninstall removal tool as sikvik suggested and install JRE 1.6.0.7 from here: http://www.oldapps.com/java.htm See if that works for you. (Prior to doing so, first check out if you do have it in IE add-ons)

Version 10 didn't work so well for me so I reverted back to JRE 1.6.0.7 and all is fine.

no, i did not know about that. Thought it was gonna work, be one of those really simple things. I have it enabled NOW, but the result was the same at house call. Still unable to scan.

i did the removal tool, uninstalled the update in control panel and reinstalled

the results are encouraging, i now have a java applet in my control panel (did not before) however, i am not sure if that is just due to an older version of java.

Also, everything checks out at java's test and version verification website. I can get into trend micro house call and begin to execute the scan. However, in stead of sticking / freezing, the scan now shows step 2, scanning local computer. The status bar indicator just bounces back and forth from the left to right side of the the status bar, and underneath shows a status summary of "preparing to update required resources".

as I recall the website actually showed a scan activity, so not sure if it is actually working or just hung up. it has been a while....
