Java Now Memory Hog

Since the second last update of Java came out, I have noticed that it is using most of my memory. Wasn't like this before. Did check on Ram and it is good. Always update Java, Flash and everything I can. Use Secunia to keep things patched and eliminate end of life programs. Run virus scan daily. Anyone else having this problem or have any suggestions on what I can do? I remove temp. files regularly and dump cache often.:confused

Looks like you've already done the important first steps - you might try uninstalling Java, downloading and installing a complete new JRE.

What's your OS and service pack #, and any other security software you have loaded?

 

Avira is runing constantly on my system but a complete scan is run in addition each day. Sorry should have included this info. Have WinXP-Prof. SP.3. What do you mean by JRE? I always eliminate old versions of Java. Thank you for quick response and help.

 

Java Runtime Environment - pretty much the core package, instead of just layered updates. You might try this: download Java jre-6u21 as an offline file, uninstall your version, reboot, and install the new file. Worth a shot.

Check your startups, see if any Java updaters are enabled, disable if so.

Maybe browse the Java forums, see if there are any similarities?
