Java Opinions ?

    Would like to get opinions on useing Java, the Yings and the Yangs...Thanking you in advance...:confused

    I see you've posted this in the software forum as well.

    So...are you after info on USING java applications, or information on PROGRAMMING in java?

    First thanks for your reply Mada and for some reason which i cannot remember, i downloaded Java, but not sure if i need it, i don't do any programming. It takes up 110 mb of space on my hard drive and am considering uninstalling it. I must have downloaded it for something i was doing at the time. I know it has something to do with script reading. Is it for some program i might have used once? thanks again.....

    Java is fairly useful. You'll need it to enable the content on many websites.

    The downside seems that it is a bit of a security burden. There are frequent updates. You can typically follow them in the Sun Java - Critical Security Release thread.

    Microsoft once has a Java runtime, but they no longer support or update it, and it has become a vulnerability on many systems.

    Sun Microsystem's java runtime is updated, so users should migrate to that.
