I have WinXP VM and use Firefox and IE for instances where the apps will absolutely not work otherwise- mostly secure printing. Everything works well, except Java would stall require the removal of the cache for printing.

All of sudden, nothing works. I have removed with Control Panel>Add and Remove and I have reinstalled. I have installed downgraded version 23 and then allowed Java Updater to install 24. Now I have no Java and do not know what to do to solve this. Somewhere there exists a roll back, but that does not solve a "fix to the problem."

    Any ideas ? :confused

I may not be able to help you depending on what is actually happening on your system. I will say that recently I had a problem with uninstalling what appeared to be a corrupt version of Java and reinstalling the current version. After using a very thorough uninstaller (REVO) it appeared that it was gone. At least it did not show up in Add/Remove programs. But when I tried to download and reinstall the current version from the Oracle website, I received a message that I already have the current version do I want to reinstall (Y/N). Even after selecting Yes it still wouldn't install and gave me the same message again.

What was happening was an old version or registry keys for Java Runtime Environment was not getting deleted from the registry even after running REVO, which is supposed to delete old registry keys.

If your problem is the same as mine then go to this link http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?showtopic=104537 and follow the instructions to run the JavaMSIFix program.

I was also instructed that if this program didn't work then I could also try downloading and running the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to delete the Java runtime registry keys. http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459

Not sure this will work if your problem is something different then mine, if not I'm sure someone will be along to offer advice.
