I have been going through the READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide and have a question.

I followed the directions to UNinstall all instances of Java in Windows/Add & Remove Programs and then installed the latest version of Java.

I am getting queries from Zone Alarm firewall whether to allow the following to access the Internet:

    Java Quickstarter binary
    Java Platform SE binary

I'm assuming that there is something in Start Up that is allowing these Java files to want to access the Internet.

Should I Allow or Disallow? If the answer is to Disallow, is there some setting in Java that I should be checking?

Thank you for your reply, Kestrel13! I appreciate the info.

Can you tell me if it is something that I NEED to have running in the background?

Yes, it's needed - ½ the sites on the internet would display wrong if you didn't let it run. The same is beginning to happen with Microsoft's Silverlight. We need that one also nowadays. And Flash, of cause.
