I've tried visiting a web site. It wouldn't open and came up with a message saying my current browser was supported. It listed browsers that it does accept and one listed was Firefox 2 or higher. As I have the latest version of Firefox I couldn't understand why it says my browser isn't supported.

I then read the fine print which says that JavaScript is required. I don't have JavaScript on any of my computers because I was once told on Majorgeeks that it's not safe. Can anybody please explain why it's not safe to have JavaScript?

If that's the only website you are having this problem with then the problem is with the website itself rather than with your computer. Javascript is not the same thing as Java, and it's Java you have been advised to uninstall, not Javascript.

I have neither Opera nor Safari but do have IE and tried to access the web page through IE. I'm getting the same message despite the fact the site says it supports both the current and much older versions of IE.

Note To allow scripting on this Web site only, and to leave scripting disabled in the Internet zone, add this Web site to the Trusted sites zone.

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
    Click the Internet zone.
If you do not have to customize your Internet security settings, click Default Level. Then do step 4

If you have to customize your Internet security settings, follow these steps:
    a. Click Custom Level.
    b. In the Security Settings – Internet Zone dialog box, click Enable for Active Scripting in the Scripting section.

Click the Back button to return to the previous page, and then click the Refresh button to run scripts.

Enabling Javascript for Firefox (newer versions) because the option to enable or disable it was removed from Tools/Options
    1. Type
    Code:
    about:config
    in the address bar
*If a warning comes up, you can't click I'll be careful
    2. In the search box type
    Code:
    javascript.enabled
If true is shown, it is on; if false is shown click the line and true will toggle on.
