I had no updated javacript in a while and now that i updated it to the newest version i seem to get nothing but problems from firefox.

When i browse the web some authenticity certificate pops up randomly from JavaScript and it asks me if i still want to load a page or something , i press '' x'' or no but it doesn't seem like it matters what i press because it seems like it does nothing.

This pops up every 40 minutes or so and i can't seem to get ti to disappear. Also sometimes when i search on Google the cursor to type vanishes and i can't type anything ( seems to be only when using Google). Recently when i try to view a map ( also via google) it won't display anything or let me type anything either.

When i disable java script it seems to make the problem disappear. I tried to see if this issue was present in chrome but i have not had a single related issue like on firefox.

I ran my computer for virus scans, malware, adware etc.. about 8 times now and everything comes clean.

How much CPU usage is firefox supposed to normally take?

I had read that Firefox wasn't going be supporting Javascript any more because of the security issues which had been exposed. Even the latest version of the JRE hadn't plugged all the holes.

I'm running Firefox 19 as my main browser and DON'T have Java JRE installed on my computer any more and I DON'T have the issues with Firefox that you're reporting.

My advice to you is uninstall the Java JRE.

Here is where you can get a tool specifically for that purpose.

    Javascript is not Java.
Nexus is talking about javascript. mdonah JRE is part of Java so your comments do not apply to a javascript issue.

Nexus, I have an addon called noscript running. My javascript is turned off on all sites. When I get to a trusted site, I can turn on various scripts and the addon will remember what I want on permanently at the trusted sites.

Now with all that, Nexus you can't update javascript, it is part of the browser. So what did you actually update?

I'm aware of this plodr. I'm presuming that the JRE was updated since the updater is part of the Java JRE install. Nexus would have only been able to update the JRE or the SDK installed on his/her computer. Since the problems began after that update, I recommended he/she uninstall it. The software I provided a link to does a better job than Windows ARP.

Would just going to my control panel and removing '' java 7 update 17'' work the same?

The file you described in your download folder is the "web" installer for the JRE update. The "offline" installer would have been considerably larger.

You CAN remove the Java JRE by using Add & Remove Programs in the Control Panel, but there will be some remnants left behind. That's why I provided a hyperlink for JavaRa in my original post. It's a standalone product that doesn't require any installation which will also clean up the remnants that would have been left behind by Add & Remove Programs. Use it in place of Add & Remove Programs as it's specifically for Java.

I think I found the cause of your problem — you have multiple versions of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed on your computer. I Googled "Why would JRE update interfere with Firefox browser" and came up with this.

Having multiple versions of the JRE installed DOES cause problems in Firefox.

Uninstall ALL versions of the JRE then re-install only the LATEST version and see if that clears up the issue.
