 Windows xp when I plug my jump drive in, the computer will not assign a drive letter to access it. It is connected because it show up in device manager under disk drives.

Strange. I just bought an 256mb jump drive. I had to download a driver for my W98SE, no sweat. When I loaded data onto it and plugged it into an XP Home PC, it recognised it straight away, no drivers needed, and away we went. XP experts please step in. Bazza

Can you see it by right clicking on My Computer, left click on Manage, then click on Disk Management?

If it does, you can change the drive letter (since it is probably conflicting with another drive) by right clicking on the drive down in the bottom right box, click on "Change Drive Letter and Paths...", click the Change button, select an unused letter from the dropdown box, and click Ok, Yes to the question that pops up, and then Ok, and close the Computer Management box.

At work, we have this problem because the network drive is mapped before the drive is plugged in, and then XP tries to give the same letter to the jump drive, and you can't access the jump drive without doing this the first time its plugged in.
