i got 3 of these in 24 hours does anyone know a way to stop them,they arrived in my junkmail so the spam filter is working ok

They are a plague! Haven't figured out anything to do about them, except for just emptying the junk folder.

Floods like that will move in circles, give it a month, and they will lessen up, and instead you'll get other email about how to improve size on your female body parts!

 

Not much you can do about it, once they have your email address, Bill. The sender's address and domain is different every time, so if you keep blocking them, it only gives them feedback that the email addy is 'live'. Just let the spam filter do the work. I just very quickly check the deleted folder in case it aint spam, the off into deleted cyberspace they go.

 

Is that true that if you actually add them to "block domain" or "block sender" then it let's them know your address is "live"?

So at work when we add these addresses to our various pc's we're causing more junk to come?

We should just let our spam filter on the main server handle it?

What about adding domains and names to the spam filter info on the server?

We're having more and more problems on each person's pc now that someone tried to add a list of blocked addresses in the server...

If you're just blocking the address/domain, it 'prolly doesn't do a whole lot either way, for the automated type of spam, that changes continuously, (which is most of it), but any action that provides 'feedback', might make you more susceptible. My filter in Outlook Express does catch 100% of it, a.t.m., but then I always like to run a quick check that it's not actually a legitimate mail before permanent deletion. Of course, you could choose to just auto-delete anything but trusted senders in the first place, if you don’t mind the odd person getting mad at you because their email never gets to you, because they aren’t on the ‘good’ list.

I guess there’s no substitute for good sense, at the end of the day.

Thank guy n gals i suppose i was being optimistic and hoping someone had a silver bullet.

i am lucky that my antivirus (F_SECURE 2007) also filters incoming mail as well.

this either does not get past Outlook Express or my address is not known (it's a very strange address and not likely to be picked up with an E-Mail generator.

but this rubbish is coming in on hotmail which i only use for log-in purposes so maybe i will get another address.

We receive around 300 spam mails a day not all of it goes into the spam folder around 4 or 6 get in the in box. The thing that irritates me the most (and thank goodness there are no children in the house) is when the title or subject is so explicit it's X rated. We have had the same username for years, suppose it's time to change.

 

Bill here is a solution that Bazza first told me about, and has worked for me, its called Mailwasher. Now some peeps say that the "Bounce" feature does not do any good, but for me after about three months of usage with the bounce feature my SPAM trickled off to about one or two a week. here is the link http://www.mailwasher.net/ ...........I chose the free version which works on only one E-Mail account, you might want to give it a try.

 

Blocking domains won't alert the spammer the address is valid as it doesn't send anything to the spammer. Now things like clicking on the unsubsribe link is generally now considered a bad idea as that does alert them an address is valid. My favorite spam filtering system is a company called postini, which is not free, nor cheap, but awesome. If your filtering a large amount of mail boxes, it may be worth looking into.

 

Hmmm - I went to postini.com -- may have to show this to the boss at work.
