  1. Hi i just have a question about something. Its not for my computer but for someone elses who i am going to repair soon and it may need sp2 to be installed on it. I have a windows xp disk with sp2 on it. Now as far as i know, i cannot install sp2 sperately without at least doing a repair install. Now if i use the sp2 disk on that computer useing her product key will it go through without problems? I want to do this from the disk because the client has a dialup connection and there is no way i am waiting for that to download. If this will work or a way just to install sp2 from the disk without haveing to repair could you please let me know.

Do you mean a clean install using your slip streamed disc with SP2 on it? If so then yes it should not be a problem..

I am puzzled on this what you said.

Now as far as i know, i cannot install sp2 sperately without at least doing a repair install.

You can install SP2 seperatly without a problem..Unless i have missunderstood you mate..

  3. I mean that i have explored the disc and there is no way to just install sp2 from the disc without haveing to do some type of install of windows xp. I cant just use the disc to get service pack 2 and just that. Like i have said in my last post, i would just download it from the windows update site but the client has a dial up connection and it would take a redicuously long time to install them from the internet. But the disc is professional and the computer is store bought so most likely it is winxp home edition. Will a repair from the pro disc still give me service pack 2 or do i have to clean install windows with professional? If there is a way just to install sp2 and sp2 from the disk only could you tell me how to do that?
thanks for the help so far

    I understand now.

Sadly a repair will not give you SP2 infact any repair removes and service apcks installed, so when anyone does a repair they always have to reinstall service packs.

To find SP2 on the disc you need to search for either xpsp2.exe. or WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe if you had win iso http://www.winiso.com/oem.htm downlaod trial version, place your xp disc wth SP2 into your drive, right click the drive and choose to open with winiso then when it opens with winiso look for SP2 and copy to a folder on your computer then just burn it to disc..

  5. Well i dwonloaded winiso and well i dont know how to get the file from it. Is there any instruction you can give me? thanks for the help so far

Download SP2 for network and IT pros here: xpsp2.exe
This is the SP2 installation executable. I was going to suggest ordering the SP2 disk from them, but I could find no info concerning it on their site anymore.

  8. Well i found the file and i am downloading it as we speak. I found it from some site called the software patch. From there i am going to burn the file to disk and it will be all set. Thanks for the help guys!

  10. Well thanks for the help and the program. Its quite alright in regards to your last post. Actually i couldnt find the file on the disk for some weird reason. But i did hunt google for a few minutes and I found the actual program availible for download from the site i mentioned before. I downloaded it and burned it to cd-r with nero. I only have win 2k on my pc so i cant really run setup on it but when i click the file it begins extracting so i think its ok. Thanks for the help.
