When you run your mouse over a thread that you want to preview, a drop down box opens up for 5-10 seconds so you can have a quick read, then it closes. :p

If you want longer than this to read the thread, just move your mouse pointer, from left to right, in the description of the thread and the drop down box will stay open while you keep moving the mouse pointer, L --> R ---> L

It has worked for me for years on different laptops.

    Different browsers, most likely.

I get partial first line, 5 seconds, mouse wiggling has no effect, Mozilla.

IE6: mouse wiggling works, paragraph or more shown. 5 seconds if no mouse wiggle.

WOW  In Opera you get a whole paragraph of the thread content, and then the full address for the actual thread below that :D And it all stays there permanently...you don't have to massage the title with your mouse at all ;)

I think you're asking when's the next STS launch? 7 December, 2138 hrs (9:38pm). Yes, we are sending it up at night, launch constraints from the Columbia accident have been relaxed. :)

Is the precise time important...I mean, why not round it up and say 9:40pm....does it drastically affect things? Just curious and uneducated ;)

Orbital mechanics dictate launch times in order to catch the target, in this case the ISS. There are a finite number of available launch dates & times each month that allow for rendezous with the fuel quantities on board the shuttle. Launch windows average about 10 minutes, meaning if you don't go then, you recycle, usually in 24-hour 7 minute increments.

That and according to TV Guide, there ain't squat on the tube at that time. :D

I use Minefield (firefox trunk). So, that could be the reason.

if i am down in FL at the time i will try to catch it. when i lived downthere i use to watch the launch all the way from Winter Haven. and it seemed like everytime the Shuttle would come in i could always hear the 3 booms.

now i hear booms everday because we now live about 30miles from Warner Robins Air Force Base. but on the plus side every time Bush is downhere we get to see him leave because Air Force one flys right over head :)

  25. star17

    star17 MajorGeek

Um, the shuttle only audibles 2 sonic booms, one from the nose and one from the tail; perhaps the third one you hear is that old car of yours backfiring. :D

  26. Lev

    Lev MajorGeek

Where I used to live in Exeter, UK we used to hear the 2 booms when concorde took off....sad was the day they got grounded, though the tiny diamond shaped windows in the listed building we lived in lasted longer without the booms ;)

na my truck dont back fire anyway i have not lived down in FL in say 7years so my memory might be abit fuzzy......

(i was gonna add something at the end but thin i thought it would be too mean so lets leave it that it was about some kind of food you eat made of meat) :p

  28. G.T.

    G.T. R.I.P February 4, 2007. You will be missed.

And will be relaxed more in the future. The Hubble repair/upgrade mission that was just publicly announced/approved requires an orbit that can't touch the ISS, giving up that security fall-back in case of problems. I'm glad to see that mission get slotted. Hubble's too good a piece of hardware to just abandon.

Yep, same here, under Opera V9.x

Cool! I'll look forward to that. ;) I agree that the Hubble 'scope is worth hanging on to. Many outstanding pictures from that. :)

  30. star17

A contingency is planned for that: for only the second time ever, there will be 2 shuttles on launch pads at the same time. The second will be ready to serve in a rescue mission capability, if needed.

The trickiest part of the Hubble flight won't be the mission, it will the reworking the budget to do it. But, it's doable. :)

    Star17,
I finally concentrated on your avatar and realized it's a rocket headed off into space. All this time, I thought it was an oddly shaped blue dragon, a sort of blob dragon, with black flames coming out of its mouth. LOL!
I really should put my glasses on more often. lol
