Hi, Ya all. I have a simple question. No big emergancy or anything, I just have a couple of .gif files and I would like to convert them to a Windows compatible .ani file. Does anyone know of some software that would do that? Thanks. :)

Have you done a search over at Download.com on "animate gifs" "convert animated gifs" or similar? They don't list that kind of software at MG, but they have a lot of that stuff at DL.C .

Thanks, GF, I will read this over and try it out. It seems like it is just what the doctor ordered. :)

I don't know why anyone would even suggest download.com (spyware.com). Probably one of the most useless sites on the internet.

Well, I guess MG does carry some programs that are other than utilities and system tools. I've been DLing utilities here (I come here first for those) for several years (just started participating in the forum) and didn't even think to look here for graphics applications. So I'm sorry, alright?
. OP - look in the Graphics section on MajorGeeks!!! If you don't find what you need there, then try DL.com as they have just about everything in one place. But caveat your emptor there!
. I expect that the people participating here are aware of the spyware and malware problem and know how to defend themselves. If I'm assuming too much then I'm really sorry...

Actually, I hadn't been online for more than a week, and I found MG's site, and began to not only learn all of the nessisary information, but to download the software for the nessisary defensive posture against all of those starving programers who got forced into prostituting themselves to make a living.

I wasn't aware that Downloads was pimping them, but now I know. I was interested to learn from your link that you guy's get paid for any purchases of software by us. I will keep that in mind. Do you guy's link to BlueSkyHeart? I have been considering buying his stuff. Really first rate graphics on his Desktops. If you guy's do link, I will buy it here. A lot of it is for Apple, but I like it too. I don't mind taking a bite or two if it's good work.

I actually read the web info on Batch Converter, and It seemed that it would make .ani into .gif, but not the other way around. So. I had a brainstorm,(Gotta be careful of that, it's shocking) and did a Google for Convert Create .ani, and found this little freeware program called Anituner that makes ani's out of anything. There is a problem however. Some gif's use overlay frames on top of the original frame, and these don't work if you make them .ani's. Ani's have to have complete frames or they don't display right.

Anyway, just thought you might be interested to know. Have you guy's seen this program? It seems good to me. It did what I wanted, and I learned a little about the differences in the two programs. Just a detail I picked up on.

The link on Downloads is intresting. Learned a few things there. from now on I buy here first. :)

Download.com underwent a major overhaul recently. Have you not been there since, Insomniac?

I've never had troubles w/ them, even before the changes. Heh, although there must be a reason why they're advertising their now "Spyware free" status.

Actually I've gone there a lot myself, but i have always used Spybot, Adaware, and Spyware Blaster, so have been very good about keeping the door closed and making sure that a good sweeping was done frequently enough to keep the dogs at bay, so to speak.

At least once a week I clean this house, and if I suspect some malicious stuff, I do it again. So, I really never noticed where any of the stuff came from, I just cleaned it out.

It is a website that Microsoft frequently directs you to for downloading software, and I am sure that if they thought it was a danger they would pull the plug on their pointing it out to Windows users. But, as you say, it is interesting that they should feel the need to defend themselves at this late date. Makes you sort of wonder what they were passing on.

No, and I couldn't care less if they had a major overhaul.

What is the point of the site? I'd rather use a search engine, or rely on MajorGeeks, which I've been downloading from for years.

All download.com do is offer downloads, and don't bother checking them, or never used to, so they are basically just in it for the money.

They don't care about their visitors, so I don't care about them. It's very simple.
