Hi! Just curious as to whether this is the truth or not.

I was told to "close" the CD tray by using the button only. If someone were to close the CD tray by gently pushing it, it could cause a mechanism inside to break. True or false?
Thanks, just one of them things that make you go, hmmmm?
    ;)

    HI!
    I found this:
    OPEN/CLOSE
Always use the handy OPEN/CLOSE button for the CD transport tray both for opening and closing the CD player. Although the CD player tray will close if you push on it, this will quickly wear out the transport device, so again, please use the open/close button.

    :)

I would say that 95% of people just push it in, as the button is usually hard to get at. :D Bazza

I've always pushed it closed...and I've got a cd drive that is going on 6 years now, and shows no sign of wear & tear!!

I think all mnufacturers just say that to cover there butt!! Granted...you don't want to give it the kung fu kick to close it...but a little nudge has never rendered my drive damaged.

Sorry to be pedantic, but, surely the question isn't stupid if not asked, but the person themselves is stupid, for not realising the merit of asking whatever questions may come into his head..?

My brother has broken 2 cd drives by constantly pushing them shut, one hi fi drive, one PC CD rom drive. Bah, you must all be buying from high quality manufacturers

Yes, its better to imply someone is stupid by using phrases like "I don't know any stupid people. I don't call anyone stupid either. That's just plain stupid" :)

I surely hope you are not thinking that there was an implication of the aforementioned .....having gained a few insights over the last year of my life (hehe) ...there are multiple reasons that people don't ask questions ...from feeling ashamed at the thought that they might be viewed as stupid (how rude of our society to instill this in children), to not realizing the import of the question and how there may be many others too afraid to ask it, or simply not having the experience to have formulated the asociation to concieve of the question in the first place.

Kids are hesitant due to insecurities with their peers ...old farts just don't give a damn anymore what anyone thinks and will ask to their hearts content.:) :)

Oh, sure, kiss and make up while I'm doing the dissertation,

Alas, peer pressure. Tis indeed a formidable vice.

Verbally bested by you TimW, I have been. I can't be blamed for failing to think of the further implications of someones failing to ask a question that may strike them......... I'm stupid :)

Dang, it, you young whipper snapper ...the point was that no one is stupid ...just too many people buy into what others tell them they are ...point in fact ...had a small class of 7 & 8th grade kids ...they were the "trouble" kids and assigned to a class all by themselve (read no one wanted to deal with them) ...with a little faith in them, some minor prompting with select "challenges" they were actually the brightest kids in the school ....they could do mind puzzles that had the 12th graders asking me how to solve ...I told them to ask the kids in the class ....They were living down to expectations ...it was pathetic. The following year they had some confidence and where challenging themselves. So, with all respect to you, I don't buy into stupidity.
Now cultural bias is a whole nother issue.:)

    >> Toni_1947 HI! I found this:OPEN/CLOSE <<

There is a freeware program developed by Kana Solution which is called CD Tray which is another good one to use for either opening or closing media drives.

Also CD Tray can detect all the CD (or DVD) drives connected to the computer and can be used to open and close the (or DVD) drives by simply clicking the popup menu from Windows system tray. To find it on the web; simply Google the exact term: CD Tray Version 1.0.0.1 (and then choose the first search result).

Note: I originally found this program many years ago when I could no longer "open or close" the CD tray by using the button on the box; but I've used it on all my computers since then. It's very handy and it can be set to "start with windows" but uses very little resources when idle.

    Good Luck!

It's no the pushing shut the drive drawer that is the problem, it's pushing it shut from an off angle that screws things up. That puts unneeded strain on the rails in the machine and what not.
