Not sure if this is the place for this but wanted to share this with someone. Today I received two e-mails from family members, no, scratch that, they were spam made to look as if they came from family members of mine as their names showed in the from box.

Subject line read "Someone Searched For You....Find Out Who!!" and in the senders address box was " verify@05.reunion.Com ". I double check with family members and they had not sent this to me but found that everyone in their address book had this same mailing sent to them.

I'm what's known as an illiterate computer granny but I think this would be about the same as hijacking someone computer to get personal info data...right? Seems a security issue of sorts that's why I picked you to ask about this.

This reunion.Com site does exist but this seems like pretty shifty business on their part and was wondering what could be done about it and them.

Your the Computer Gurus so I will leave it in your hands and would appreciate a reply if you fill I deserve one. And yes I still have the e-mails if I need them sent to someone to check out.

Wish I had a bxxxb that would automatically send out to these folks and screw things up on their end......YES!! rolleyes When I grow up and become a nerd I will take care of these fools!!:D

That said...no I wont be blowing up anyone, but I feel sooooo much better now that I have vented! Thanks all.;)

Malware comes in many forms ...and it is always a no no to click on an email link or open an attachment that you do not know who the sender is....in this case, someone (who's email in hijacked) needs to do some cleaning and you were very right to confirm the email before doing anything....good job!

I'm not a granny. I'm a network admin and the same exact thing happened to my wife last night at 12:45am EST while we were watching TV. This morning we find out everyone on her Gmail account was emailed a welcome message from Reunion.com.

It turns out, somehow a Reunion account was created and it imported all her Gmail contacts and emailed them all invites.

Thing is, the bot or whatever created her Reunion account with MY name and HER email. Something we would never mix up.

There is a huge security problem with this:

Reunion.com should REQUIRE a confirmation email link be clicked before creating the account or allowing activity. Much less emailing. Their system is flawed and outdated and clearly being exploited.

OR, they're doing it themselves with evil malware companies to increase signups and subscriptions.

    Beware.

For the record, I had my 'forgotten' password emailed to me by Reunion.com (a password we would never use) and I logged in, changed my password, deleted all my 'friends' and deleted the account.

Well what you did sounds ok to a point but if Reunion did this and from what I read about them so far I wouldn't be surprised, how are you sure you have really deleted every thing of yours from their site!!??

I don't trust them at all and would never sign up with them just because of their shifty practice. I would hate to get all my friends involved with them.

I don't think I would have messed with that forgotten pass word either, especially if you hadn't set it up to begin with, that just gives them a link to you now regardless of you deleting your info. I would think they could keep what ever they wanted and you might never know.

Now days we just have to stay on our toes and hope for the best while keeping up with all our updates.

Agreed. I certainly don't expect to get any help from Reunion, so I did everything within my power to make sure that passwords were changed and data deleted.

My main concern leaving everything intact on their server is that they will continue to "remind" the "friends" that I invited them months later. That will only aggravate the problem later.

We'll see what happens. In the meantime, I just wanted others to know.
