    It doesn't work! Obviously :p

When I turn it on, it goes to the first start up screen "American megatrends...AMIBIOS etc, etc." and it gives the option "Press F11 to change boot options". It also used to say "press F2 to enter setup", but clearing the CMOS changed that .

Anyway, where it gets stuck is when it says "Initializing USB Controllers .."

That just sits there underneath everything else I've said and doesn't change.

I've tried pressing F11 and F2 (when the option was available) but the message is just replace by "Entering setup" or "Opening boot option pop up" and also sits there, not doing anything.

My MoBo is an ASRock P4V88 and I'm pretty sure I've connected up the front panel USB's correctly.

    Please help :'(!

    Thankyou :D

Just a quick thing to try....disconnect the usb connectors to your motherboard. What happens now?

Is the hardrive formatted,do you have your os in the cddrive and first boot device cdrom?

login bios and check if you already choose boot from USB disk

Theefool: Did that, exactly the same thing happened

Rikky: The hard drive has not been formatted yet. I would put the OS Boot disk in the drive except since I installed the graphics card (I ordered a MoBo without integrated graphics without realising) It's stopped responding to the eject button. Though I just remembered, I switched the DVDROM drive from cable select to Master today. Can't see how that would affect it though.... I don't think the computer gets to the boot up procedure anyway so if the disk was in, I think the computer would ignore it.

    A.Son: I don't know what you mean.

I can't plug the monitor in unless I have the graphics card installed

Clear your bios or login bios -> load default.

You mean take out the motherboard, the hard drive, the RAM, the processor, the disk drive etc?

A.Son: I tried going into the bios set up menu but nothing happened when I pressed the F11 key.

    good call Nitrowing .
    I noticed that also.

When I 1st. started learning to build computers [4x86 and super socket7] all that I would install hardware wise would be the graphics card ,keyboard and mouse ofcourse monitor and go from there one step at a time, but learned this from trail and error, kinda like Sherlock Holmes detective style and also remember if you get really frustrated just walk away sometimes for even a day or so just to get a different perspective on the situation.

I've heard alot of good suggestions here so far, perhasp one might take note of these proceedures...

    EDIT*
    ----------
no leave motherboard and all intact, just have the graphics card, keyboard, mouse and monitor installed, hopefully once you do that all should go in the proper direction...

Pull the plug out then take battery out of Mobo for awhile...

perchance are you using a usb mouse/keyboard?

    notice to Administrator*...
a 5 minute time limit once posting to board is not sufficient, but does add to my post count.
