Hey, after reading about ur problem i have realized that i have the same exact problem with my PC. I just built this thing before i got underway and hadn't had a problem with it until I installed My second video card and tried running COD4. It's a Graphichly intense game which is why i built it specificly for gaming. here are the specs.

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 2.5Ghz 6M 1333Mhz
XFX nForce 790i Ultra SLI Socket 775 Motherboard
    2) XFX GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB PCIe w/Dual (in sli mode currently)
    2) Corsair XMS3 2048MB PC10600 DDR3 1333MHz (2x1024)
    Ultra X3 1000w PSU
Microsoft Windows XP Home SP2 OEM Version

I know the Video Cards work because i can play COD4 beautifully for like 15 minutes before the computer just up and freezes on me. I was wondering if maybe i need the right drivers because i can't think of anything else. I have already tried switching the Video cards around and using the seperately only makes the problem worse. It's cut out on me once while the computer was just doing nothing with no programs running in the background and also while watching a movie. Help would be appreciated and i hope that i can help out u too djwagner.

to add on to my last reply my computer also has the problem of fickering and i haven't been able to download any drivers for it since i reinstalled windows XP. I might be able to download them later but currently i don't have that capability.

Lets assume that the major stuff is right.

Drivers are fine and hardware is fine plus BIOS is step up correctly.

I am gonna try a small stab in the dark here, have you made sure the SLI connector bridge is connected the right way round? Putting this on the wrong way round can cause all sorts of bad, better yet the drivers won't tell you that you've installed it the wrong way round.

there is really only two possible ways to set up dual graphics cards in the mother board i have. I know i have them in the right two slots because it wont start up the computer any other way. it tells u how they go. But there is two different places for the bridge connection on the video cards and i never thought to put it on the back two. I'll try this and write back. Thanx for the help!

one of those cards should be enough to do the job! try using a graphics card 8800 and lower and see if you can play alright?

Well I assume running two of those Video Cards on high settings could be generating a lot of heat. Do you have an after market heat sink? What are system temps right after the freezing has occurred? Lets try and rule out temps. DO you use EVEREST or some other monitoring software?

Do you have the latest Chipset Drivers for the MOBO?

first i have to say that i don't have the latest chipset drivers for the motherboard or the graphics cards. i just used the ones on the CD's that came with the Board and Video Cards. I thought that since the MOBO was built to run optimally with the 8800GT that i wouldn't have a problem with drivers and what not considering my 9800GT was from the same company and only a small step up. I haven't been able to download the drivers because the internet connections sucks when ur out on a ship, but will try to download them within the next day. I do have an aftermarket cpu fan and it's pretty big, but only keeps the cpu at i believe 40/C at idle. I'll have to double check that number. I'll try to get back to u later with more info. thanx again.
