Just Curious...

It's not a problem but if there is an answer it would be interesting to know. Operating in XP Pro. Surf almost exclusively in Chrome. ISP is Earthlink DSL. Most of the time everything zips along fine. A few moments ago I logged out of gmail, the login page came up, then I clicked to an MS Word forum. The forum address came up in the address bar on top but the screen didn't change. The whirliygig thingy in the upper left corner was crawling for probably not even a minute but it seemed forever. All of a sudden it switched directions, sped up and the MS forum page opened. Sometimes when I'm a bit more impatient then usual I'll close the stuck window and open another and go on. Even more rare, I'll leave the stuck page open while I proceed in another window and wait and see how long it takes the page to open. It can take 2 - 3 - 5 minutes. It can be any page, even pages that normally open fast like Google, Yahoo Mail, etc. Come to think of it, maybe it's actually the closing that is slow. As I described above, the gmail login screen stayed in place even tho the address bar had changed to the MS forum page. Any ideas, comments, suggestions any wish to offer will be greatly appreciated. Very common symptom and one whose cause could be any number of sources. Couple of things you might try:

1. Use a different browser or browsers, see if your symptoms change.

2. Ensure that Chrome has no add-ons or plug-ins that may be slowing things down.

3. At the time of the page freeze open your Task Manager to monitor what processes are running during the symptoms. If opening Task Manager stops the page freeze, report that.

4. Boot into Safe Mode w/Networking, see if your symptoms change.
