I've had to pick out about a ton of bugs since Sweetie:drool got into myspace - all seem to come from videos posted there.
Has anyone else had similar experience?
Am wanting to kind of build a record of sorts of people who have had this issue.
    Thanks and Blessings,

    Hi Port O San :)

Moved your thread from malware as its a forum limited in who can post to your thread ( in Malware Experts only ) so to guage a better sample group for your question, I moved to software.

Cannot answer your query though as I don't use social networking sites, dont have need for them.

What bugs you got, where they malware related though? just curious to wether this is actually MySpace issue or the links to embedded videos.

    Myspace gets phished...A LOT.

Yeh, as Adrynalyne said, it's phished. You have to be careful where you enter your password as there's many fake myspace sites out there.

    Facebook all the way! :D

I notice a lot of comments posted on there with links to fake Myspace login pages. Here are some actual comments

    &

    &

This will then have a link to a log in page, even when a user is already logged in.

Many users of the site don't appear to realize this. Someone on my friends list had their account hijacked, and I knew this because a comment was posted from her profile to mine. I deleted it, because of the dodgy links, but many people don't, so they remain there to tempt those who don't know.

Halo = am not sure what the first bad bug was - it took out my OS with such a quickness that I never got to I.D. it - and I'm pretty good with malware.
Other bugs have been things that affect media players or hijack the browser (which ended with use of FIREFOX/NOSCRIPT!)
I can't wean Sweetie off the damned site, so I've limited access that the site gets to my computer (and I keep an OS disk handy!).
Most of the bugs I've encountered have been embedded in videos or messages that are left on people's "space". Said buggies are then spread by users as they go from space to space.
I am convinced that, without MajorGeeks, nobody could keep their computer up, smooth, and uninfected while viewing myspace - it's an abomination unto our computing world!
    Blessings,

Hi i know its a few days later, but I had the same as port-o-san. I two am very stringent with malware, thats what first brought me to majorgeeks a few years back.
Both adaware and avg found and quarentined the bug but my os still crashed regularly I'm on top of registery etc as well. In the end it turned out that my motherboard had passed its sell by date but I cant help thinking...
I avoid those links you posted like the plague and delete ASAP. + i tell others to do the same and change their p/words AND download some progs from here.
but the other day a new one appeared it went something like this.

"We saw this comment that someone is saying about you, and its not very nice"

This came from a friends account so I stupidley clicked the link. All hell broke lose and I am still working with my backup tower.
OK my board was 4 years old but thats not the point,

We rely on myspace for our business and work (i wont try free advertising, too much respect for MG!) therefore we have to keep using it.

My advice to those that do, or have others using social networking on family pcs is 1} set all comments to "be approved"

2} run thorough scans after EVERY session

3} set friend requests to require a CATCHA that stops a lot of crap!!!

4} be a good social networker and inform people they have been phished etc and what to do,

Its like chaos theory on the roads, the more people who youre polite to in youre driving manner, the faster you will get to your destination!!!

    God bless Majorgeeks

PS A really radical solution is to get peerguardian to silently block html. this will render myspace safe but not very pretty at all.

If you use Firefox, it often flashes up a warning if you try to load a fake myspace page. This only happens if the page has already been reported as a web forgery.

The way to avoid this is to log into the real myspace. Get on the site, click "Home" and log in from there. Then if you are asked to log in again you know it's a fake page seeing as you're already logged in.

My daughter uses my laptop all the time to visit her MySpace and Facebook pages.
She recently found out her account had been hacked or whatever, cause someone sent messages with her name, but they weren't from her. She has since then changed her password, and I am hoping nothing nasty got on my laptop.
