I just installed Windows XP on my other computer a few weeks ago and allways say I needed to register it and I would goto it and it would say that Windows is allready registered.
    Well...
Now I boot it up and I cannot log in because it still tells me I have to register it before I continue and then it says allready registered then starts over with "You need to register..."

    HELP!

Dioxane said he/she "just installed windows xp on my other computer..." Maybe you're installing the same XP CD onto another computer. I don't know if it has any bearing, but maybe that's a way of curbing piracy. I'm not accusing you of pirating XP software, but if you're using the same XP CD then that may be the cause. Good Luck.

I don't know what is wrong with your comp. Sorry.

    To quote directly:

A few weeks. Not 5 minutes ago.

I'd still like to know if a hack was used, because if not, I believe I have a soultion. It works for us, most of the time.

    Simple.

A few weeks goes by, and a lot can happen. namely WPA becoming corrupt. Its not unheard of.

Here is what happened, most likely.

Poster gets message that he/she must activate before logging on. He/she goes to activate. WPA goes straight to, "Windows is already activated."

Could be corruption, could have been a crack. Results are the same. The wizard will not activate, because part of it, thinks it is.

That message comes straight from the software, not from the activation server.

Does that clear it up for you?

I'd like to link you an MS KB article that discusses this in more detail, but its a private internal article.

I used the same XP CD to install on both of my computers. As long as you have a valid license and product key for each computer, as I did, it doesn't matter which CD you use.

Yeah, you are thinking CD= licenses.

    One license per computer.

If we are talking retail CDs, 1 product key, per computer. So you can have 1 CD, 2 product keys and be just fine.

No, I used a CD to install it..

Thats what I was going to do but it never allowed me to enter in the key to have it as a separate one.

I was never given a chance to enter in a serial for Windows, it never gave me a chance to so I ignored it and just allways clicked okay. Now I can't do anything with the computer. I'm just going to get my old Windows 98 disc and set it back to 98. If it gives me the same problem again. I'll have a dead computer.

if your other computer works fine, you could try just email/chat support from microsoft.

Who will tell the poster to do a repair install.

There isn't much else to be done.

Well, there is plenty to be done, but it almost never works.

You could try renaming wpa.dbl and wpa.back in C:\windows\system32 from Safe Mode.

Then reboot and see if you can activate.
