    Hi
Ive just posted my first thread, a short hello, on the newbies site, so i'm still wearing my shorts and mums holding my hand.

However its time to grow up so i was hoping one of you could help

I seem to have a lot of processes running, and i'm sure my system would be more efficent if i could turn some off or delete a few altogether. Problem is i'm not sure what will happen if do. My system is MS Windows XP SP2, IP4, CPU 2.8GHz, 512MB RAM, Radeon 9200.

Will i need to delete programmes, will thing only stay off till i reboot the system and do they then come flooding back etc

I have attached a screen print of my TM processes

as you can see very new but willing to learn

    Regards

Recommend you follow the instructions in this post as it will show you how to trim your processes.

Post back if you have any questions on specific startup programs and/or services.

Mada's link should prove to be very helpful... additionally, unless you actually use AOL, remove anything with those 3 letters in the name. AOL software is almost a virus in how it can take over a PC, and really slow things down. You can also turn off anything in the startup that says 'scheduler' or 'updater'. I see you also have a popup blocker running; you can get rid of it. Most browsers these days have built-in popup blockers. You can propbably also remove any printer/scanner type stuff from the startup menu. I see something called 'Broadbandadvisor' running twice; CFD.exe is borderline spyware; and there's some unknown .EXE files running also (fws.exe, snmp.exe, RPS.exe are a few). Go thru your Add/Remove Programs list and remove anything that hasn't been used in the last 2 months (personally, I use 1 month as a gauge); if you haven't used it in 2 months, you probably don't need it.... run a 3rd party defrag (I like Auslogics http://www.majorgeeks.com/Auslogics_Disk_Defrag_d5266.html ) followed by the Windows built-in defrag after you follow the steps at Mada's link, and after removing excess software, cleaning temp files, etc.... you should notice a drastic increase in performance ;)
    Good Luck!

I also have a link to share about "growing up" and gaining control of processes. I have posted much of what I've learned the hard way here: http://doc1101.vox.com/

My post is designed for those who are just begining to "look under the hood," and contains web addresses of useful tools and many informational sites. The 'links' there are not live(clickable). Copy and paste the URLs (http:\\....) to your browser address bar to view the referenced sites.

No spyware, no advertising, nothing to buy(or even donate), just info.

When I was beginning my computer adventure, I tried just about everything everyone told me. I have since learned to go slowly, and from understanding. My enthusiam often got me in big trouble. Take it a step at a time, building on what you have learned. Soon you will be having more fun than ever.
