IMO, yall signature system is really messed up, 1st of all it only allows 2 lines, also u can make text into a link, its very restricted, why? seems silly to me i dunno

I think they changed signature to be that way about a year or so ago, because people were abusing the ability to put html in signatures a bit too much... I could remember wrong though.

 

Well, nobody wants to keep scrolling past everyone's 14 (or more) line hardware sig going down to the fan level. Totally useless IMO. I personally like it man. Oh, there were also abuses of well known quotes but no need to take up page space, like half a book in a sig.

 

I will say though, that i would like to be able to format the text in my sig. To be able to turn the first line into an actual hyperlink to my blog (Clickable blog name rather than just a url), and to make line two in bold would be nice.

 

turning on html is not a good idea, but allowing vb codes is, here is a pic of my sig at my own site i was trying to put it here but no good

 

Just to stir the pot again...

A few is more than 2 and I would like to have more options. But to your point, I note most forums, just as here, allow users to set their preferences so sigs, avatars and or images are NOT displayed - this is primarily for dial-up users but will work for you too.

I help out at several sites and this is certainly the most restrictive, and unnecessary, IMO. Yes, some folks will abuse it - but it takes very little moderation to nudge the user back in line - or ban them.

Having an image size and 300 character limits works too. For me, it would allow me to use my normal sig as seen here, with a few characters to spare:

I don't think that is too intrusive, and for me personally, it gives folks a chance to learn about me. Since I am not on staff here, and don't have many posts here, it gives them an opportunity to check me out - see that I am real and maybe they will trust me a bit more on risky tasks than they might by just looking at my post count.

 

I understand why the owners restricted the size of our signature because there were some members who had sigs that were 10 lines or more and that made the number of posts per page fewer.

I do - once. But after I "know" the poster, I don't bother - which is why they are not really a distraction for me (if kept small, and "tidy").

 

Mimsy's signature looks like an explosion in a Scrabble factory.

and with remember me check box and all...
i dont think ive actually seen a sig in a given thread in a long time.
