Just not multitasking like it used to

I don't know what I did but MY machine has slowed dramatically and I have especially noticed that when I have several windows open and try to download a graphic it basically freezes until the download is finished. I upgraded last year to 768 m of memory and had no problems until the last month. I cleaned my registry and have run anti-virus and anti-adware programs but it still is happening.

Anyone have any clue what might be causing this?

Just to start off.

1. Bring up the Task Manager (ctrl > alt > delete) and see what processes are running, might have several things running in the background you are not aware of.

2. Click Start > Run > and type msconfig then click on the Startup tab, see what is starting up and uncheck anything you don't need on startup. This, http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4075 will help you identify some of the items listed.

3. What kind of graphics are you downloading and do you have Photoshop installed?

4. Which anti-virus do you have?

Thanks for the reply. It came in handy plus I found out that my cache was overfull. It is all better now.

 

You might also want to defrag your harddrive. It's often times over looked, but can give you a serious performance boost if it's done.
