A very good evening to all at MG - yes, here in "Darkest Afrika" the time now is "perzactly" 21h25 (or if you prefer, 9.25 p.m.), Tuesday, 28th December 2010 of a hot summer's evening in my neck of the woods, South Africa. From what I've seen on the box and internet, your part of the world is pretty cold - apparently colder than normal - being your midwinter.

I see it's been quite a while since I last visited here, but I must say my computer is on its best behaviour, although it can be because of the fact that I'm not into any 'heavy' programmes like many of you are, and secondly, my son, who is also a geek, now lives with me since his wife died some time ago, so he sorts it out as and when needed. However, that does not mean that I am rejecting your services for which I am grateful - and I will pop in every once in a while to say hi.

Then in conclusion I wish you all a blessed and prosperous New Year, and hope that 2011 will make all your wishes come true, and may the best of this past year be the worst for the future!

    Warmest wishes,

    ®KIM

Good to hear from you again. Hope you had a good holiday down under. Yes, it's winter here and some are having it worse than others. ;)

Thanks, Tim! Good to hear from you too.

Getting back to the weather, I was in Durban, a sub-tropical city on the wast coast of what is known as KwaZulu-Natal province - hot and humid in summer, from what my son tells me, very similar to your Miami in Florida - he was there some years ago, but after my darling hubby passed away the kids decided to relocate me to a place called Kempton Park, about 500 km inland and forming part of the East Rand in the old Transvaal. Google Kelvin Power Station, Kempton Park, on Google Earth - I'm in that complex, very clean, very safe - high security, and I must admit I'm really liking it more and more. My youngest stays further down in the same street as where I am, and as I said, my son is also with me now. But weather-wise the summers in this part of South Africa are hot and dry and the winters so become bitingly cold, although no snow per se, but we do get frost. At the moment a thunderstorm is raging outside, and which woke me, which is why I'm sitting here right now!!

As my late friend, Keith would say: Stay loose, keep your feet on the ground and reach for the stars!

Hi ®KIM, good to see you on the forum again, I can imagine your thunderstorms are pretty nasty ones compaired to those in the UK, we have just had more than average snow this year which has caused chaos.

Hi, David, yes, thunderstorms here in S.A. can be reallly scary. My eldest, who stays high in a hill called Alveston, about halfway between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, told me on Christmas Day when she was here for a family gathering that a lightning bolt hit the place and they were without electricity for quite a few hours, and the generator should have automatically kicked in - which it didn't - so they found out that some or other component was not working... a real bummer!!!

Yes, I saw that you Britishers are having a more than average severe winter - whereabouts are you? Poor passengers stuck at Heathrow - our local airline, SAA, apparently stepped into the breach to take some people over and pick up others needing to come back. And then everybody is ranting about global warming? Who knows - perhaps this severe weather the northern hemisphere is experiencing has been a stark reminder that global warming may not be the order of the day.....

    Have a good one!

    Hi

I'm in North West England, just outside Liverpool. Yeah global warming has taken a turn for the pundits now calling it climate change as its not getting warmer but colder, personally I think we are on the cusp of the next ice age, I'm not going to be around for it at its worst.
