obviously this is in £ and things might be different at your end of the atlantic.

But you could sell your i7 930 (IIRC that's what you have) for £140, the average x58 mb sells for £70 and you could get £50 for the tripple channel memory so that's £260.

An i7 2600k costs £179 and a new MB capable of 4.8Ghz is roughly £120 and 4gb of ram would cost around £40 so that's only gonna cost you £80 in total. Not bad eh. :)

As i said this is just a rough estimate and you have got to take into consideration the situation at your end but just an idea.

Haha, no, using my tax return money to fund my new computer components... I'll make a thread about it once I get my stuffs.

The 980X outperforms the Sandy Bridge CPUs by a bit, though the 950 is closer to the 2nd gen i7s.

I opted for the 980X as it's still a very beasty processor, and it doesn't have the hardcoded DRM that seems to be a prevalent issue with the SBs. Plus, as I already have a good graphics card, no need whatsoever for the integrated graphics on the SB... it'd just be a waste. Another reason I chose to go with a 980X is I'm always not sure about getting the latest and greatest until it's been out for awhile, plus motherboard selection for the new socket is limited right now, and I've waited long enough to get a new machine. I figured as long as I'm getting something, I may as well get something really good that will last me at least 3-5 years.

Thanks for the idea Burrell but I don't re-sell hardware, it either dies or is given away.;) The folding gurus love the 2600K! Yes, I have an i7 930 and @3.8GHz.
