Have you heard the name? ....he was a math wiz..

When he was in elementary school. His teacher got mad at the class and told them to add the numbers 1 to 100 and give him the answer by the end of the class. About 30 seconds later Gauss gave him the answer.

If it was Gauss, he multiplied 101 by 50 which gave him 5050.

A maths genius wouldn't waste his time adding up all those numbers. He would work out a shortcut and use that.

They have been around Aus for years, where they started, and then I saw a show where they hit the US market and were making millions.

They were even on the Today Show with Matt and Katie.


Once you appeal to kids, then you've hit the big time. One of the many reasons places like McDonalds are so successful.

It's very hard to say no to your kids when they have their heart set on something.

 

True. I've weaned my daughter off of TV though, so I only have to confront them in toy stores now. I mean...they are more disturbing than Barney.

Of course, I'm sure the money makes it worth it for them.

I may be old fashioned, or just old, but TV isn't what it used to be.

For example, what does King Kong figurines etc have to do with KFC or McDonalds happy meals?

 

King Kong tastes like chicken

Marketing...Yoda was the yip of choice at KFC and McD's; doesn't have to have anything to do with the food, just what would currently play on the kid to get the parents to spend the money.

And I agree: other than History or Discovery Channels, or something like Animal Planet, TV is a waste.

 

You have great taste Star, I love Discovery and National Geographic etc. Very educational and entertaining, I could watch them all day.


It's a peeve of mine, but yes, I really hate companies that use kids like that to make money from their parents.

 

Absolutely the interest is there, but my tolerance for BS is so low it's barely measurable; you couldn't get me to watch a "Reality TV" or "American Idol" type of show even if you threatened to yank my spleen out

 

Totally agree. What is wrong with TV programmers?

I hate Big Brother, Survivor etc, yet I see some people that religiously watch them in awe.

It makes me physically ill!

 

I don't think anything's wrong with them, they're just following the orders of the network to produce what gets ratings to draw the advertisers; whether it's interesting, realistic or even accurate rarely enters into the equation anymore.

I can't understand why people watch those shows either. They are so totally and utterly boring. They just hope in the hours they watch it, 2 minutes of hilarious entertainment just might happen!!

My kid had a big Wiggles phase. Don't worry, it passes around three. We had every damn Wiggles video. In fact, my son is wearing his Wiggles pajamas tonight.

Whats funny is, my wife had a thing for Captain Feathersword!

Thank god thats over. Now he's into Spiderman. I'm cool with that.
