Kaspersky AV vs Spywareblaster

Hi, all. I found an interesting issue when using Kaspersky AV 2010 and Spywareblaster version 4.4 together. OS is Win 7, I have not applied service pack 1 but all other updates are good.

When using Kaspersky's vulnerability scan I was continually getting the message asking to clear the list of trusted domains in Internet Explorer. I don't use IE as my default browser, so this was driving me insane. I also discovered that the list of restricted sites in Spywareblaster was being cleared and protection removed.

It would seem that when I used Kaspersky and told it to go ahead and fix the list of trusted domains, it was clearing the list of restricted sites that Spywareblaster had established.

Any ideas what could cause this behavior or how to maintain a good block list?

It's called a false positive; start SpywareBlaster and reinstall the the malware blocks then export the relevant Registry sub tree (I think it's HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap - it should be listed in the Kaspersky vuln. scan too) to your Desktop, zip it and email it to Kaspersky with a note about it being a false positive and tell them you only charge them $100 per hour for helping to make their customers more secure

It's a problem that's been around for a long time; I've updated some Security software makers in the past about this problem (it also affects users of SpyBot's immunise feature), if Kaspersky can't fix it within a week after being informed, I'd dump them.

An alternative might be to use OpenDNS with malware domain blocking enabled by the DNS server.
