Yeah, part 2..... part 1 is here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=153787&highlight=kaspersky
I don't know what I was thinking by trying this huge pile of :crap piece of :*** software for a second time. I guess I'm a glutton for pain and punishment. The original thread deals with the inability to uninstall the worst AV application in existence. It has decent detection/removal abilities, but you CANNOT remove it from the PC it's installed on; at least not with conventional methods. It doesn't show up in Add/Remove Programs. The built-in uninstaller (a file called uninst000.exe) didn't do anything except error out (screen shot of the error attached below). If I try to delete the folder to the Recycle Bin, I get the old "Access Denied; File in use" crapola. So, I'm going get a tattoo on my right hand that says "KAVP NEVER AGAIN" so every time I grab a PC mouse, I'll see it. I even tried in safe mode, and, yes, the file is still in use. Doesn't 'Kaspersky' mean something like "you will never be able to uninstall this no matter what you do" in Czechoslavakian???

Isn't it possible to boot to DOS and delete the file?

i'd go to the system32 files and look for anything thats sticking on your comp of kas files and delete it.

That's more-or-less what I had to do. I actually booted to a Barts CD (actually the UBCD4Win - one of the greatest inventions EVER!!!) and deleted the folder, then looked through the %system32% folder and removed what looked like it needed removing (yeah, I know, everyone is thinking "he removed what looked like it needed removing??? What is he... CRAZY???" No, not crazy. I've got years of experience removing stuff from the system32 folder safely. It's been probably 3 years since I totally hosed a PC by removing the wrong files. If I'm in doubt, I'll rename the extension by adding a ".aaa" to the end of it; I can always rename it back if it's needed). Then I booted in safe mode, regedited out anything Kaspersky oriented that I could find, ran RegScanner to look for Kaspersky stuff, rebooted in normal mode, ran CCleaner (both HD and reg) and it appears to be gone. :)

The whole point is, all of this should not be necessary! Removing a piece of software from an established firm like Kaspersky should not turn into a massive project of regedits and system32 file deletions and PECD booting and file extension renaming and..... how a piece of software like this even makes it out of the factory is beyond me. Maybe they just assume that nobody is ever going to try to remove it. What if someone less versed in PC-ology installs it??? What if a noob installs it and then decides they don't want it? Well, tough luck 'cuz you got it, forever. OK- I'm done. I just HAVE to remember to never use it again. Ever. I don't have time to spend 30 minutes removing an antivirus app that's harder to remove than the viruses it was supposed to take care of (oooohhhh, the irony). The first time was a couple months ago, and this was the 2nd time. There will NOT be a 3rd.

The only question I have is:
Why were you trying it again?
    You know the old saying:
"Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me"

    :-D

I too have used it once or twice to try and clean up friend's PC's. No more. :cry:banghead:mad:o

I'm wondering if MG should remove it. :confused
So that I don't use it again by mistake.

 Yeah... I know..... I thought maybe they had pulled their heads out and fixed it. I also thought that maybe the first time was a fluke and it was the fault of the PC or the install had corrupted somehow. I just find it hard to believe that there aren't more posts about it. I've had the exact same nightmare both times I've used it, so I know it's the software because every other variable was totally different; even the keyboard, mouse and monitor were different, the speakers too ;)

    HEY!!!! KASPERSKY!!! :kissmy !!!!!!
