I recently downloaded Kaspersky lab tool from major geeks, thinking it was a free version of the popular anti-virus program. I installed it from the .exe file on my desktop, afterwards it didnt run. I noticed there was no shortcut in my start menu for it, and there was now a folder on my desktop that says Kaspersky Lab Tool. I tried dragging it to the recycle bin, but there is an error message that says:

"Cannot delete advdis.ppl: Access is denied.

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected
and that the file is not currrently in use."

I was able to get the Kaspersky lab tool to run from a setup file within the folder, i even did a scan with the lab tool itself. but it is not in my list of programs on add or remove programs, and i cant run the uninstall from the folder. The folder looks just like something that would be in program files. Is this a virus? how do i get rid of it? thanks, WD25

    Hi

Its not a Virus as TimW stated, but whats happening is that the message

states that the file is still in use on your pc so its running inbackground which is why you cannot run the uninstaller, so to stop ist process hit CTRL-ALT-DEL adn look for the process AVP.exe and click end Process > then goto the location and folder where you installed it, likely... Kaspersky Lab Tool\unins000.exe and run the unins000.exe file, if prompted to restart your PC, do so.

    Thanks Halo for that reply.
However, when I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL i can not find AVP.exe in the processes. Would it be under something else? Will experimenting with different ones hurt my computer at all? Is there another step i should take?
    Thanks again

    Hi

If you have restared your PC since trying to uninstall the AVP tool then the process may already be uninstalled, so goto the main folder of Kaspersky Tool and run the unins000.exe file.

or if that doesnt work, open the Kav AVPTool and disable the Self Defence option and click "complete antivirus protection" and then try uninstalling.

or re-boot into safe mode ( F8 at boot ) and run the unins000.exe file.

Major Geeks needs to 86 that program !
I just opened the program , unchecked everything , clicked on the "complete virus protection " and the uninstall window opened .
Clicked the remove button then restarted .
    Finally GONE !
    Kudos to Halo !
    Thank You !
