Here is a partial fix to your problem. Just double click on the reg file and it will merge the registry, which will just zero all the values that the worm has created.
I have tested it on my own system it should not cause any problems.

Make sure you restart after applying the patch

Uh oh, Kodo is going to bust me on this one and find a properly made worm removal program.......... oh well

i am not saying or implying that kazaa is shit actuallt i think that it is great it is just weighing up the pro"s and con"s and maybe it is better that i stay away from it i wish i could stay there and not get any problems

honest i think that it is ok

PS why is it my fault

You need a better or a more up to date Anit Virus program. One that can be regularly updated so this type of thing doesn't happen. This on precisely one of the reasons I don't like Norton's AV program. Personally I like Ontrack's System Suite 4 which has an AV and a Firewall, just like the other Norton product I used. I've just never been a big fan of Norton products and I have had absolutely zero problems with Ontrack's products.

You just need to be more causiouis (sp?) of what you download off Kazza. Im thinking that your downloading apps n stuff, which more often than not are trojans or viruses. My antivirus actualy tells me that im downloading a virus before i finish downloading it!

As long as you just show discresion over what you are downloading, and who from, there shouldnt be a problem.

Anyway i think that you should have a better AV ..LOL.

If you were looking for new AV progs, you might want to try CA www.ca.com or AVG www.grisoft.com the are both good.

can i run another virus program aswell as another firewall with nortons running at same time or are they going conflict

  10. Kodo

    Kodo SNATCHSQUATCH

make sure you check the files sizes of the "stuff" you're downloading. If it's like 100k or whatever.. but pretty much anything below 1MB, chances are, it's a virus.

I "get a virus" just about every day, sometime several. That's not the same thing as getting infected with one. w32.kwbot has been in Nortons AV database since Feb, if you were infected then:
    A. Your virus definitions are out of date
    or
    B. You're not running Auto-Protect

Chances are you "got it" but were not infected because Norton wouldn't let you run the program.
For the record neither Norton or AVG are anti-trojan programs.

my nortons is up to date as i run update religiously every week and it is set to auto protect

So you prolly got the virus but weren't infected.

thanks for help but can i ran 2virus programs and 2 firewalls
AND is this a good idea

    They will likely conflict.

2 firewalls would not work (i wouldnt risk it anyway) but 2 AVs would probably be fine, as long as you were only using the resident feature of one of them. Personally i have both eTrust Antivirus and AVG, but i only use the resident and auto protect features of eTrust, and i only let AVG run when i want to perform a scan.

Don't run 2 firewalls as they will conflict. If you're doing a lot of downloading with Kazaa, then you really do need good all round security.
    I would suggest these programs:

    >Gladiator Antivirus ( as on demand second anti virus/trojan
    scanner),
    >TDS-3 (anti trojan - have to pay for it, but is the best in the business),
    >SpywareBlaster/SpywareGuard/MRU Blaster (stops spyware from installing, will stop you from executing spyware files and will remove your most recently used lists),
    >Adaware 6 (spyware removal),
    >Spybot S&D 1.2(spyware removal),
    >System Safety Monitor (monitors for malicious programs trying to piggyback your real ones)and,
    >Very GOOD firewall (Kerio, ZonealarmPRO, SygatePRO)

With these I doubt you will hardly ever have anything reach your system.

    Regards, Jade.

I'm with AbbySue on that. I scan everything possible before opening or running it.

I'll third that. Anything you download ESPECIALLY from kazaa scan manually (my av has a context menu item for it)

which av are you using goldfish?

And now from the OTHER WORLD:
There are two safe ways to enjoy a Virus or Trojan.
The best is a Mac OSX in Windoze emulation. It is fun to have a god like control as Windows eats itself. When you tire of the "lets trash Windows" game restore the emulation in five minutes. I just keep a backup folder with the emulation.

Or dedicate an older machine to downloading. Set it up and Ghost it. Since you dedicated it, give it the latest anti trojan, anti virus, etc. Who cares if it is slow? Minimize security on your download box. If possible, use a separate router so the download box cannot see the rest of your system. Scan and test everything on the download box before running it elsewhere. Do not hesistate to blow it away and Ghost it back.

Neither of these is cheap in time or $$. But if you admin a critical system it is less time and trouble than a virus. I do all the downloading for my little LAN. Users ask me and I get them a clean file. More work for me on the onset, but we have never had a virus or trojan in five years.
