What are you all using to share files on linux?

As far as i can tell, Kazaa is strictly Windows.

You can use WINE or there is a Linux-specific client whihc I have forgotten, I know there are many tutorials out there talking about how to properly set-up KaZaa under WINE.

kazaa is still around, and doing very well.
To well, they have convinced pretty much all the servers hosting kazaa lite to get rid of the file; good luck finding it. You might have to install kazaa to use it to get kazaa lite:eek:

what is kazaa lite. from what i interprite, it sounds likEw in order for kazaa to existst, many servers must host it with kazaa lite.

    is that right?

some people reverse engineered kazaa to make kazaa lite. Its kazaa without the spyware, a RIAA IP blocker, and sets your sharing rating to 1000.

But, kazaa is trying to get it shutdown.

But use kazaa lite if you can get it, its better then kazaa.

Like I said, kazaa just pressured all the servers that were hosting into taking it down. Kind of ironic, a program that is under legal pressure for infringing copyright, is now threatening to sue a group which is infringing on its copyright.....i guess Kazaa thinks it shouldnt go both ways.....which is a bit stupid.

You can try searching google for it, but, I doubt you'll find it.
Id suggest just downloading kazaa, using it to find kazaa lite. Its on there, I just checked.
Then, uninstall kazaa, and install kazaa lite:)

so what do you think of the current start of p2p file sharing and its future?

I think p2p is gaining momentum. Its been around for years longer then Kazaa or napster, with IRC being the main method.
But p2p programs are weathing legal problems levied on them by organizations like RIAA very well.
They wont ever shut down; the internet is beyond the control of anyone. So, p2p will always exist, even if kazaa goes under, some other group will take its place.
I also think it will remain free; if one service starts charging, then, another service thats just as good will startup, with no fees.
I also expect to see songs/videos/games being offered for sale by companies on file sharing programs. I think that RIAA will even have to adopt this in the future, otherwise, they will go out of business. If they refuse to let music be sold online, then, bands will sign with companies that do sell music online, and will eventually leave RIAA. Hell, bands could even sell entire CD's online, or maybe even a competetior to RIAA will develop, offering both hard copy music (Cd's, etc) and software copies, available for download for a reasonable cost.

I hope that these changes will take affect over the next 2 to 3 years, if the success of Apple's i-Tunes is any measure. :)
