Ok, so i installed kazaa, (kazaa plus v3.0) and when i run it, it comes up with this error "Kazaa has caused an error in <unknown>. Kazaa will now close etc etc"...iv completely removed it, and reinstalled it, several times. But i don't know what the problem is...it worked fine a week ago...and then just decided to take a dump. I don't think virus/adware/spyware would be part of this, but i ran scans just to make sure. Nothing found.

A word of advice, don't use Kazaa.

Apart from the program containing Spyware and Adware, the network itself is riddled with viruses, and you are sure to get infected downloading from it.

Try Shareazza, or even better, Bit Torrent.

I also suggest you pay a visit to the SPYWARE FORUM and follow their recommendations in the "stickies".

    Sharl,

If you installed Kazaa I can assure you that you have some infections so I would highly recommend following Insomniac's instructions to do the stickies in the Spyware Forum.

That is a big 10-4. Kazaa is horrible. The cleanest p2p out there is probably Ares, but p2p is dangerous in any form. Uninstall Kazaa immediatly, and run scans until you can scan no more!

I hope that doesn't mean that you paid for it. If you did, well, you just lost some money. If you didn't you can still be saved. I know you said that you ran spyware scans, but what programs did you use? Also, have you updated them recently?

Insomniac is correct Kazza even Lite is not to good these days..You cannot go wrong with Shareaza, i believe it to be the best out there but that is my oppinion, as for Bit Torrent Shareaza has the client built in, so if you click on a download of a bit torrent file Sharewza will automatically download it for you..:)

Give it a try you will not be dissapointed..

Ofcourse we are talking legal files that i find and download..

WinMx still works, you just need to tweak it or download another hosts file.

I don't know why you are so intent on using Kazaa.

Just because you haven't had a problem with it yet, doesn't mean it's good or safe.

It's your computer, if that's what you want, then enjoy.

  10. Pretty much everybody agrees, trash Kazaa man. There are so many P2P programs to chose from. Do some homework and it will pay off.

    This should help.

Don't be affraid of change. ;)

  11. Use limewire and peergaurdian. No viruses, no trojans, no spyware. Just really fast downloads on whatever the heck you want. Trust me had kazaa ghost once and it was slow and once i popped on limewire i never wanted to go back to kazaaghost. Just use limewire to protect the system from bad stuff on limewire. Robaction posted links to both. Give em a try.

  13. Oops, regarding my last post, I meant that peergaurdian protects you from bad stuff on limewire. I kinda wrote limewire twice. Please notice this edit when reading my post.

Here's a question about kazaa that I can't find addressed anywhere. I have selected my shared folder, but kazaa wants to share all the files on that drive instead of JUST the shared folder. No matter what I do, it keeps defaulting to sharing all the folders on my drive. I tried moving my folder to another drive and reinstalling kazaa. I don't want all my files exposed. I'm not a novice here, but I never had this prob in the past til I started using kazaa again and downloaded it. Any thoughts here?

Did you read the entire thread? Everyone's thoughts are the same. Get rid of Kazaa!

You say "I'm not a novice".

If that's the case, then you should know better than to use Kazaa.

Especially considering that there are plenty of better, free programs available.

  17. Just face it, there are just too many bad reasons to have kazaa. Dicth it man and get another p2p for free. Something like limewire maybe. No spyware, no ads, just good old downloading and not much else.

LimeWire has a bad name because earlier versions were riddled with Spyware and Adware, and weren't very stable.

Apparently the latest version doesn't have any nasty surprises, but it's left a bad taste with a lot of users.

It's not a bad program, but I prefer ShareAzza.

as Insomniac said in the beginning it was filled with spyware and such so i never used it again.. I been useing Shareaza since. Besides Shareaza can connect to Guntella 1,2 ED2k and be used at bit torrent

  23. Well i still have limewire and the latest version has nothing harmful in it and seems to offer decent download speeds. Although in the past they were faster, they are still good compared to transfer rates with kazaa. But the spyware and virus problems are not really there anymore and when i talk of peergaurdian protecting the system, i mean it will keep the record comanies from sending you a lawsuit because they caught you downloading a couple of songs. But other than that, limewire no longer has any virus, spyware, or trojan problems.

Firstly, the Recording Industry doesn't go after people "downloading a couple of songs".

They are more interested in people who upload and download hundreds of songs.

And if you think Peer Guardian or a proxy server stops them, that is a misconception.

It makes it harder, but if they are determined then you can't stop them, there's always a "digital fingerprint" they can follow.

  25. Oh really. I know one time this was pretty freaky, I had limewire running a while ago and i checked the status window and i saw RIAA listed in blocked server list. lol. I really dont download in mass, just maybe one or two here and there then when i have a ton accumulated burn a cd and delete the songs. But Limewire does no longer have the problems it had in the past anymore. So if you wanna use it go for it.
