    I'm using KaZaa Media Desktop. I have a network and I was wondering if I can have a shared folder where all my desktops using KaZaa can access. I tried it but was having trouble recognizing the music files on the shared folder.

    i'm assuming you're using windows XP

    yes you should be able to do this. First, share one of the "My Shared Folder" 's on one of the computers. make sure all of your networked computers have rights to access that shared folder under sharing and security (Allow network users to change my files) , and point kazaa to that folder on every computer you wish.

    however..I may be wrong but i'd suggest letting the incoming files save to the hard drive of the computer that is getting them, and then moving them when they are fully downloaded, as to avoid constant network traffic and possible file corruption... just a thought.

    as to the files not being recognized, each computer (unless customized by you) can have a different association with a file type. for example, say on one computer you installed Winamp and let Winamp be the defualt mp3 player. all mp3 files would be associated with Winamp. and on another computer lets say you installed RealPlayer and allowed mp3's to default to RealPlayer...

    is that what you mean by having trouble recognizing the music files?

    personally i would just set up a windows network and share the folder which the music is in. i think as Kazaa is basically just a glorified HTTP downloading utility, you can just type in
    http://x.x.x.x:1214
    Where the xes are the octeoc of the IP (iow the IP address)
    that would let you download the file, OR play it in winamp (by add, URL)

    If you set up a windows network you just need to share the shared folder on your machine, and make sure that all the accounts you want to access it have the privilages, probably read only is the best. this way you just need to find the folder
    //machinename/mymusic
    or whatever.

    There is a pretty good guide over in networking on how to set up a windows network using a router, if you need it.
