This arrived today, and after it had installed itself declared my previously activated Win 7 64-bit Ultimate counterfeit, partly disabled it, and said that my product key was now blocked!

It's all baloney of course, so I immediately reverted to a pre-update state and blocked the update from installing again.

There's lots about this on the web and most ppl are disabling it. If you are running W7 64-bit it might be a good idea to do the same.

Yes, there is a lot of chatter on this but I wonder why you just received it? It's been out for 3 months.:confused Oh, I had no issues with it but then I'm not everybody.:)

    Hi

Did you not try and contact MS support on this at the activation line as they could possibly resolve this for you, may need some info off the DVD or the box in your licence code, but generally they can activate this immediatly.

I know it shouldnt happen with folk that have legit licences, but with keygens etc who knows if 2 or more same keys are floating around, like Augie, not had issue with this one yet on 4 Win7 PCs, have a few more I have not checked yet. Did get 2 PCs updating to this last week Augie, its not uncommon for the update servers to stagger updates on a country per country basis, guess Canada was the guineeepig this time :/

But good heads up and one users need to be aware of, just wonder now if this has been escalated up the chain ay Microsoft, need to check the feedback reports.

I would like to resolve it properly but was pushed for time when it happened so simply had to revert the system. I've never needed to contact them about anything like this, so what's the best way?

Contact Microsoft through one of their free channels and see what they say.

Start HERE and follow the directions/menu.

I did use this once, and the response was fairly quick and courteous.

Thanks Brandy, but neither that nor any of the other related links I have followed has got me to a point where I can actually speak with anyone. Everything just leads to more web pages.

However as of this morning, and knowing I can back out should it happen again, I have allowed the update to install. So far there hasn't been any problem and Windows is still showing as Activated. If it plays up again I'll have to start all over.

I just re-installed Windows 7, so I had to go through a zillion updates, and this particular update fails to install no matter how many times I delete it and try again. After reading this thread, I guess I'll just leave it as a failed update, and hope it doesn't cause problems down the line.
    Any thoughts on this ?

I would just leave it, as it is of no benefit to you whatsoever. It uses advanced algorithms to determine whether your version is genuine or not, and if it decides it is not then your product key is permanently blocked, as was mine despite it being entirely legit and previously activated. It's an absolute menace :mad

Ill just leave it be then . I was trying to get it to install but :*** it . Thanks .
