kds valiant laptop trouble

trying to hook up to my dsl connection but it says connection falied but the usb ports work but they are the 1.1 not 2.0 ports can anyone help with ware to use the port at a faster rate i thought that a usb device would work in the usb port with no problem the ports do work at the slow rate I put a memory stick in it and it read the stick but warned of the slower rate
