keep disk checker from coming up on startup

I already know my hdd is pretty much ****ed. It's already began suffering physical damage from age, and I don't need windows trying to tell me this already, only to freeze up everytime in the middle of the checker.

Everytime I startup, it wants to check the hard drive. I checked in task manager, but nothing's there as far as that goes. So how do I get rid of the auto-startup for the disk checker?

You could try System Inspector which i use to manage my startup entries ;)

    This might work.

Go to Start > Run: Type in: chkdsk D: /r *Note replace the D with whichever letter the drive is your having problems with, when it asks you yes or no say YES.

Also, are you sure the HDD is the problem? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q316506/

Even that freezes up (forgot to mention it), and yes I'm sure it's the hdd as it's getting strange free space readings, and chkdsk /r when it did work before, recovered a bunch of crap.

The only startup entry I have (and this is in TuneUp Utilities) that looks odd is the blank one, so that's getting disabled, I'll run the registry cleaner from tuneup sometime later tonight.

What OS is this?? Nowhere have I seen what OS we are talking about. There are many different things to try, but it all boils down to what OS we are using.....

Correct me if I'm wrong, the only time Windows wants to check the harddrive for errors during system start is when Windows has been improperly shutdown. This could be a system shutdown problem.

Yes, stop error with my video card after going to a link that has an extremely massive image (9999999^2 pix) caused the diskchecker crap, and it is XP (forgot about that). Did not shwo up in msconfig or that startup inspector, or tuneup, but a blank startup entry exists that I unchecked (more than likely it).

The thing that gets me is that chkdsk /r from the recovery console freezes as well as normal chkdsk. If that's a ram issue and not a harddrive one, please tell me so I'll be inclined look into my ram further.
