Dell dimension 2400, had unknown password. I took out battery for several hours, didn't work. I seen a jumper on MB that said clear password, I pulled off the 2 only prongs and replaced after 5 secs. It now doesn't ask for password but goes to start in "safe mode" or "start windows normally". I tried both several times but it just starts booting over with bios boot then "safe" or "normal".

    Ideas anyone?

I assume that removing the jumper wiped the cmos. Have you gone into the BIOS and checked to see if the settings are correct?

If I'm going to make any changes in the BIOS, I usually write down all the current settings so I know what is working.

I went into BIOS set time and boot order. I'm teaching myself as I go. What else should I chech for?
