Ok, let me get right down to it. Recently, my power supply broke, so i took it back to the store i bought it from, and they upgraded it from 430W to 500W. Now i get home, plug everything in, and then for the first few times the computer turns off after windows is loaded... After a bit, everything loads quite nicely. Then i release everytime i load a game (or anything big, i'm not sure) it will work for about 30minutes and then BAM the computer turns off. This NEVER occured before my power supply broke and now it is really bugging me. Please help. Thanks.

PS: I'm running AMD Sempron 2600+, Windows XP SP2, 512mb ram, 128mb video card.

It could be a power supply issue, overheating or software failure, download speedfan at MG and check all your temps, download 3dmark also "any will do",run speedfan in the charts section select all temps, then run 3dmark,once finished run again, after the second run, leave the program and have a look at the charts and post the highest temps.

what symptoms were you experiencing before to warrant a change in power supply?

Be sure, test different games and programs try and simulate the crash again to narrow down the circumstances under which it happens ;)

Alright, i installed SpeedFan, and my normal temperatures are: Temp1: 36C | Temp2: 43C | HD0: 31C. Then i installed 3dMark2001SE and the first time i ran it, what do you know, my computer shuts down after the 6th test, so i restart and redo the benchmark and exit after the 4th test and the highest temperatures i got were: Temp1: 36C | Temp2: 46C: | HD0: 31C. Also, the side of my tower is off so that its a little cooler because its in the basement. (note, this happened also with the case on, btw). What could be wrong?

PS: The symptoms i was experience before i changed my power supply was that my computer wouldn't turn on at all. It just wouldn't turn on.

Well i touched my video cards heatsink and yes it was hot. The video card itself was pretty warm aswell. And i have 512mb ram and like i said before, it worked fine. My video card is a Saphhire Radeon 9200SE. And this has never happened before i was forced to switch power supplies, and the power supply was an upgrade from 430W to 500W. Anythign pop into mind?

It may be set in the Bios to power down when it reaches a certain temperature, although that really doesn't explain why it's only doing it now?

It may also be some sort of thermal or power cut-out in the new power supply.

Yes, but it is the exact same power supply as my old one, just with 500W instead of 430W. I'll check the BIOS, i'm at school right now, so i'll post back in 5-6 hours.

Try different RAM or different combinations of RAM. I don't believe it is a temp issue as your temps were nice and cool even while running 3Dmark. Also, just because your PSU is new doesn't mean it is good. People get bad products all the time when getting new stuff, that is just the nature of computers (not saying it is bad either, just noting it is still possible). Do you have another PSU you can try?

same pin size molex connector to the mobo for the new PSU?

No extra 4-pin (12 volt) for the CPU?

Have you done anything else (hardware wise) whilst installing the new PSU?

    Regards....
