I have just installed the firewall and I keep getting popup messages asking whether to allow or deny access to one or more ports on my computer. Which ones should I allow/disallow? How can I tell the difference?

    Thanks,
    Reb

    Hello, rebelyel

Maybe I can give you some insight to this. Have been using Kerio4 for some time now and really like it.

Go to network security and open the predefined tab.

Internet Group Management Protocol - deny, deny
Ping and Tracert in - deny, deny
Ping and Tracert out - permit, permit
Other ICMP packets - deny, deny
    DACP permit, permit
    DNS permit, permit
    VPN permit, permit
    Broadcasts - permit, permit

In the same network security go to the Applications tab

LSA Shell (export version) - deny, permit, deny, permit
Windows NT Logon App. - deny, permit, deny, permit
Userinit Logon App. deny, permit, deny, permit
Generic Host Process - deny, permit, deny, permit
Microsoft File and Printer - deny, ask, deny, ask
Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall - deny, deny, deny, deny
All other Applications - ask, ask, ask, ask

Your browsers when the window pops up telling you they wish to access the internet, put a check in the box to create rules for the app., then press permit. Each time you create a rule for an application it will be listed in the Applications Tab showing the rules that were created for that particular app.

It's safe for an app. to go out to the internet, but not many apps. need something coming in to them form the internet. Once you have created rules for the apps. you use such as browsers, updates, etc. these pop up windows will become less frequent.

If you get a pop up telling you something desires to come in from the internet to one of your applications, click on the details area of the pop up and check out what it is. You'll be quite safe to use ask, permit, ask, permit for application rules.

    Hope this helps you out.:)
